How to apply for a Canadian Visa?
If you are a citizen of Austria or the Bahamas, you can apply for a Canadian visa through the Canadian Visa Application Centre. The process is simple and takes only a few days to complete.
To apply for a Canadian visa, you will first need to gather your documents. You will need your:
-Austrian passport
-Canadian passport
-Two recent passport-size photos
-Proof of citizenship (birth certificate, driver’s licence, etc.)
-Travellers cheques in CAD or US dollars equivalent, if applicable (see below for more information)
Once you have collected your documents, you will need to make an appointment at the Canadian Visa Application Centre. Appointments are available from Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm EST. After your appointment, you will receive an application form and instructions on how to complete it. The application form must be submitted with the following:
-Your Austrian or Bahamian passport
-Your application fee in CAD or US dollars (if applicable)
-Proof of citizenship (if applicable)

How Long will it Take to get a Visa?
Assuming you are a citizen of Austria and your passport has been valid for at least six months, it will take around two weeks to receive a visa. If you are a citizen of Bahamian and your passport is valid for at least six months, it will take around one week to receive a visa.
What Documents do I need to Bring with me when I Apply for a Canadian Visa?
Applicants for a Canadian visa must provide the following documents:
- A valid passport with at least six months validity remaining.
- A visa application form, available from Canadian embassies and consulates or from the Government of Canada website (www.canada.ca).
- Two passport-style photographs, taken within the last six months.
- A proof of adequate funds to cover your stay in Canada – either a recent bank statement, a letter from your employer confirming your salary or an investment/savings statement indicating that you have sufficient funds to cover your stay in Canada, or a certified cheque or money order in the amount of C$5,000 (or the equivalent in another currency).
- Proof of health insurance coverage for yourself and any accompanying family members travelling to Canada. The policy must cover hospitalization and medical expenses incurred while travelling outside of Canada as well as return transportation costs should you need to return home early.
- Evidence that you have applied for and received authorization to work in Canada – this can be an employment contract, payslips or other documentation that shows you have been offered a job and have started working there.
- If you are applying as a family member of a person who is already living in Canada, you will also need:
-Your spouse’s valid passport;
-Your spouse’s visa application form;
-Two passport-style photographs
When Can I Go to Canada With My Visa?
Canada is a great place to visit, and if you have a visa, it’s even better! If you’re an Austrian citizen, you can enter Canada with a visa valid for six months. Bahamian citizens can also enter Canada with a visa valid for six months. Note that if you’re visiting family in Canada or if your stay is less than six months, your visa will be valid for three months.
If you’re a citizen of any other country, unfortunately you won’t be able to visit Canada without a visa. However, there are many other great places in North America to visit without one!
